Happiness.

Here's a short list of things that make me happy...(in no particular order)

1. Our DVR. Seriously, what did I do before this? The Husband and I currently have these shows on our recording list:

Mondays-House & Hoarders (Have you seen that show? It's like a car accident. I can't turn away.)
Tuesdays-Hell's Kitchen.
Wednesdays-Glee & The Ultimate Fighter.
Thursdays-Bones & Flashforward. (This show looks like it's gonna be good!)

2. My husband. We're a couple of lucky girls around here. 3. My friends. I've chosen to surround myself with a few strong, amazing women. They are my support system.4. My family. They are the best. And pretty darn good looking. :)
5. Old pictures. I might not ever see all of my pictures again, so that just makes the few that I've been able to recover that much more precious. 6. And this picture.

Hope you're having a Happy Day!

Shake.

Yeah. I taught him that.
Just call me the dog whisperer.
(I told the husband, "Focus on the dog. Not on me, I haven't showered today." He listened.)

Conversations.

(This will likely turn into a frequent post, seeing as how kids really do say the darnedest things.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At dinner the other night.
Maylyn: "Mom, I want a little brother."
Me: "Uh huh, I'll get right on that."
Kaeleigh: "Mom, I want a little sister."
Me: "You already have one. Yay, I don't have to do anything!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Working on homework yesterday.
Kaeleigh: "Ugh. Coloring is my life."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bill teaching the kids how to play 52 card pick up.
Kaeleigh: "This game is not fun."
Photos.
Wow, I've had nothing to blog about. Nothing I've felt like boring you with anyway.
So...what's new...
We put up some pictures! Bill had bought these film strip frames months ago and they were just hanging on the wall with 4 pictures of the girls in them so I finally got around to printing off a couple of photos to fill the frames.
This is Maylyn's frame.
And here is Kaeleigh's frame.Both frames in the hall. (A couple of my favorite shots from the frames.)
Bill came home yesterday after having our wedding photos framed at work! I was oh, so excited!
Our photographers were amazing. We had nearly 700 proofs. We used our reprint allowance and narrowed it down to these. (So hard, by the way) We've still got an album coming, I'm totally looking forward to that! Can't wait to see it!
Conversations.
Maylyn sees me drinking from a Harkins movie cup.
"Mommy, can I have a drink?"
Hand her my cup. "Sure."
"Is it Pepsi?"
"No, it's water."
"But I like Pepsi."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Picked up Kaeleigh from school.
"Mom, we had a bus evaporation today!"

"A what?"
"A bus evaporation."

"Huh...we used to have those when I was in school."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maylyn trying to grasp that I used to be a kid too.
"You used to be this many? (holding up four fingers)"
"Yup. A looong time ago. Mama's old."
"When you were this many did you used to have a mom?"
"I still have a mom. Grandma is my mom."
"Grandma's your MOM?! (giggles)"
Decisions.
Halloween is approaching. Ugh. It was never a big deal growing up in our house. My kids have only gone trick or treating twice. But the husband really loves Halloween, can't wait to get dressed up and scare people...great. So I'm trying to decide what the girls should be this year.
Halloween 2006 we had The Little Mermaid.And a monkey. (I freakin' love this costume.)Last year we had Dorothy.And a cowBOY, not a cowGIRL. Cowboy.So far when asked, Maylyn wants to be Nemo, Jessie from Toy Story 2, and a Princess. Kaeleigh just wants to be a princess. I made the mistake of looking at target.com's costumes with them in the room. Big mistake people! Stay tuned to see the final results...
Chores.
I've been going back and forth on a chore chart for my kids. I had an idea in my head. Looked at what friends had done. Searched the internet for ideas. And finally settled on this:
Kaeleigh and Maylyn are each responsible for 4 things. (They're little, I didn't really feel like it needed to get much more complicated than that.) When they do their chore they will earn a coin for that day. I look at this as also teaching them about the value of money, which coin is which, the names and so on.
1. Bedroom-They share a room so it should be easy, right? Get it clean twice as fast? Ha ha.
2. Individual chore- Kaeleigh helps clear the table/Maylyn picks up Jake's dog toys in the living room.
3. PUP- Wednesday nights are Pick Up Poop night. You want to have a pet, you have to help take care of it. They've each got their own pair of rubber gloves and actually think it's fun! Wait til they're older!
4. Good Behavior- Not really a chore, but if they can keep their butts out of the time-out chair all day then they earn their coin.
Once I got it all straight I went to Kinkos to print out the chart and have it laminated. Then the husband went to Lowes and got me a sheet of metal that I covered with contact paper and glued the chart to. Finally, I went to Walmart and bought fake plastic coins and hot glued them to little magnets.
At the end of the week we're going to add up the coins they've earned and take them to the bank...their piggy banks. :)
Gets me every time.
Maylyn is loving Pre-K! This is what she made her first day.I may be biased, but I think she colors pretty dang well for a 4 year old...And yesterday they made chef hats to go with the play doh they made. She's stylin'.
