Tonsils.

The beginning of October brought surgery for the girls.  They both got their tonsils and adenoids out.  Getting both surgeries done on the same day seemed like such a good idea at the time...

 Don't they look excited?
They each got to pick a "flavor" for their masks to help cover the odor of the gas.  It turns out that these flavors are just chapstick smeared on the inside of the mask.  They performed the surgeries in order of youngest to oldest so Maylyn got to go first.
Both surgeries went great.  Our awesome doctor said Maylyn's tonsils were disgusting.  It's a good thing we got them out.  Kaeleigh's were more normal looking just large.
Maylyn took a long time coming out of the anesthesia.  I had bought presents for each of them.  They both smiled and cuddled their new toys and then promptly fell back to sleep.

Once they had each been monitored for two hours and had popsicles and water, we were able to head home.  Recovery was not fun at all.  We scheduled the surgeries for the Thursday before Fall break at school so that they would have plenty of time to recover.  Kaeleigh bounced back pretty quickly.  She was eating and drinking like a champ.  Maylyn had it rough.  She refused to eat anything.  I called the doctor's office freaking out because I couldn't get her to eat at all.  Apparently, that's normal.  As long as she was drinking they weren't worried.  Well, just getting her to drink anything at all was a struggle.  Water was about the only thing she had for the first week post surgery.  The poor girl lost 10 pounds!  That's a lot when you're a little kid!  Eventually she did start eating a drinking more but we've continued to have issues with her swallowing.  It seems to be a mental thing at this point.  She thinks it will hurt so she won't swallow.
I can tell you one thing...I won't be scheduling any more procedures for them on the same day again.  This mama is exhausted!
